Tussar Silk-

Tussar silk sarees are light and have a unique texture making them soft to the touch. The porous nature of the fabric makes it breathable and cooler than other silks. It is one of the most convenient fabrics to drape in warmer regions.

The authentic appeal of Tussar silk sarees has made them popular among women globally. The undertone golden sheen of the fabric makes it special and helps refract the light at different angles making it a perfect attire to wear on weddings and grand occasions. Tussar sarees are suitable attire for office wear as they are not too flashy and won’t feature vivid hues.

Origin Of Weave-

India is one of the biggest producers of Tussar silk. In Sanskrit, it is called Kosa Silk. Among all other states in India, Jharkhand produces the largest amount of Tussar silk. The Tussar silk industry is majorly dependent on rural labourers and mostly tribal women who are trained in the production of Tussar silk. The Kharsawan district in Jharkhand is the homeland of skilled tribal workers. The skill of weaving Tussar silk sarees is passed on to the next generations. They take at least 3 to 4 days to make a 10-meter of silk fabric. And each skilled tribal woman weaves around 10 Tussar silk sarees in a month.

Tussar silk is unique. Unlike other silkworms, they don’t breed on mulberry which is the common source of food for most silkworms. Tussar silk comes from the silkworm biologically called Antheraea Paphia, which feeds on the trees in the wild forests. Hence, the reason why Tussar is referred to as wild silk.
